Could a perfectly filtered selfie be today’s artistic answer to the self-portrait painted with oil on canvas? It may seem flip to suggest the two are related or even comparable, but the rapid development of technology and the exponential growth of the Internet has seeped into every aspect of our world, even how art is created, distributed and displayed. A new exhibit at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston called “Art in the Age of the Internet – 1989 to Today” examines how the Internet has impacted art and artistic expression.
