Would You Ban Casinos In The State If You Had The Chance?

August 7, 2013

Massachusetts voters may vote on building casinos in the state this Fall. A coalition that includes Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone is looking to undo the state law authorizing new casinos and a slots parlor. What do you think — should we pull up the reins before the process moves ahead, or have we committed already? Would we be leaving money on the table? Jim and Margery talked to casino opponent Scott Harshbarger about it.

Also on BPR:

  • Art Caplan from NYU's Langone Medical Center talked about medical tourism — the practice of traveling out of the US to undergo major procedures at a fraction of the cost.
  • Boston Globe Editor Brian McGrory talked about the sale of his paper, as well as Amazon founder Jeff Bezos' purchase of The Washington Post.
  • Robert Sege, a pediatrician at BU Medical Center, talked about ways to keep guns out of kids' hands.
  • Edgar B. Herwick III talked about Chicago Steppin', a Midwest dance style that's come to Boston.
