'The Whale' Play Explores Morbid Obesity

March 20, 2014

The new play “The Whale” centers on the grim existence of a morbidly obese man largely confined to his Northern Idaho apartment. It's a subject matter rarely dealt with on stage, not to mention life in general.

  • WGBH arts editor Jared Bowen had more on this production at the Speakeasy Stage Company.

  • Todd Michael Hall was a consultant for “The Whale” and weighed nearly 500 pounds before undergoing bypass surgery.
