The Boston Marathon regarded as one of the most challenging courses. The route features several notable landmarks, from Scream Tunnel in Wellesley to Newton’s notorious Heartbreak Hill.
With just one mile to go, runners pass through Kenmore Square in the shadow of Fenway Park, where the Red Sox play every Patriot’s Day.
That 25-mile mark is as far as some 5,000 runners made it last year diverted after the explosions at the finish line. But as WGBH News reporter Edgar Herwick shows us, many of those runners were back this year, determined to make it all 26.2 miles.
