'Rebuild By Design' Aims To Protect Coastlines From Future Flooding

When meteorologists first saw Hurricane Sandy forming off the East Coast almost two years ago, they knew it looked bad. But the resulting damage to New Jersey and New York was so extensive and costly, it forced new thinking about how to prepare for the next storm. 

Enter “Rebuild by Design," a competition sponsored by the federal government asking for innovative ideas at how to protect our coastlines from future flooding, some of which are pretty far out, as WGBH News science editor Heather Goldstone explains.
