NYPD Commissioner On Ramped-Up Security At 118th Boston Marathon

More than 3,000 law enforcement officers were deployed along the race route to ensure the event was safe.  That included a contingent from the bomb squad of the New York City Police Department.


  • New York City Police Commissioner Bill Bratton assigned officers to the Marathon. He’s a Dorchester native who joined the department in 1970 and rose through the ranks to become Boston Police commissioner in 1993.  
  • His wife, Rikki Klieman, is a criminal defense attorney and graduate of Boston University.
