How Day 1 Of Federal Government Shutdown Affected Boston

On what should have been just another workday, numerous federal offices in Massachusetts and around the country displayed the same sign: "closed for business." 

That's because of the partial government shutdown that began at midnight, after Congress failed to pass a continuing budget resolution. While many essential federal workers, from air traffic controllers to active military, are still on the job, the effect of the shutdown was readily visible in Boston.
