Free Things To Do This Week: Outside The Box Festival

July 17, 2013

Here’s one to lift your spirits.

Boston is playing host to a new kind of performing arts festival – Outside the Box.  It’s nine days of free entertainment on Boston Common and City Hall Plaza, as well as other venues across the city. Shea Rose, one of the many acts set to take the stage joined Greater Boston along with Outside the Box organizer Ted Cutler.

Cutler, who personally invested in the festival, said he had wanted to organize a festival this since 2008.

"I wanted to do it because Boston... is not known as a performing arts city- a real performing arts city internationally," he said. "This is the beginning of inviting everyone to come and see what performing arts is and having everyone enjoy it."

The performing arts festival features theater and musical performances from groups such as the A.R.T and the Boston Lyric Opera, as well as bands such as the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, the Blind Boys of Alabama, and Bearstronaut. It lasts through Sunday, July 21.
