John Connolly says he wants to run school lunch programs in Boston like a restaurant.

Food Fight: John Connolly On BPS Nutrition Dept. Report

May 21, 2014

In 2011, then City Councilor John Connolly captured images of boxes of expired food that he found while making surprise inspections of the cafeterias at several Boston schools, which shocked and angered parents. The disclosure that students might be eating old and expired food led to a series of investigations into Boston Public School’s Food and Nutritional Services Department.

Last week, one of those investigations issued their findings, and they were damning. The independent report found a department rife with dysfunction: a “hostile work environment,” “poor communication at all levels,” and “internal controls” that are “weak or non-existent.”
