Concussions And Our Kids

This week, WGBH News kicks off a week-long focus on concussions in light of WGBH-TV's Frontline documentary League of Denial, which examines the NFL's role and response to concussions among its players.

Monday, 10/7: 

  • WGBH News reporter Adam Reilly looks at the push to test student athletes' cognitive function before they are injured. 
  • Dr. Robert Cantu, the co-director of the Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy at Boston University and an expert sports medicine, and former student athlete Casey Atkins

Tuesday, 10/8:

  • FRONTLINE producer Michael Kirk joins Boston Public Radio and Greater Boston to talk about League of Denial: The NFL's Concussion Crisis which premiers at 9 p.m. on WGBH Ch. 2. 
  • Adam Reilly reports on the search for new technology to help prevent concussions and reduce their impact. (Check out the work that Lowell-based Xenith and Cambridge-based MC10 are doing, the latter in conjunction with Reebok.)

Wednesday, 10/9:

  • Former WWE wrestler Chris Nowinksi joins Greater Boston along with former NFL player Isaiah Kacyvenski to talk about their work raising awareness of brain injury issues in the professional sports world.
