Boston Opens Court To Provide Special Support For Veterans

There’s a growing movement to create special courts for vets accused of crimes. Boston opened its first on Wednesday, following the model of the Norfolk County Veterans Court, which launched in 2012.


  • Judge Mary Hogan Sullivan volunteered to run the Norfolk County Veterans Court after attending a conference on drug courts.  

This is not the only specialized court in Boston. The city also has a court that deals exclusively with homeless defendants, and we profiled the city’s mental health court as part of our FOCUS report on the intersection of mental illness and criminal justice.
