Boston, Other Cities, Hold Preliminary Votes For Mayor

September 26, 2017

BOSTON (AP) — Voters are trickling into polling locations across Boston, where Mayor Marty Walsh is seeking a second four-year term.

City Councilor Tito Jackson and a pair of lesser-known candidates, retired police officer Robert Cappucci and health care worker Joseph Wiley, also are on Tuesday's nonpartisan preliminary ballot. The top two vote-getters face off Nov. 7.

By 3:30 p.m. just 59 voters had cast ballots in a polling location at the Massachusetts Statehouse.

Elsewhere in Massachusetts, voters in Framingham are heading to the polls for the first time since residents of New England's largest town opted to become a city. Voters will narrow from seven to two the field of candidates seeking to become Framingham's first mayor.

In Lawrence, five candidates are challenging incumbent Mayor Daniel Rivera, with two advancing to November.
